A Prayer for Peace

On Friday, I wandered around downtown Bogotá and came across this monument. It refers to a well-known prayer by St. Francis of Assisi and I thought that I would share it with you.

The inscription reads:
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace – that I might spread love where there is hatred–forgiveness where there is transgression – faith where there is doubt–hope where there is hopelessness – light where there is darkness–and happiness where there is sadness.

Oh, Divine Master, help me that I might console rather than seek consolation–understand rather than seek to be understood–love rather than seek to be loved–because giving is receiving–and forgiving is how you forgive me–and by dying in you I am born into eternal life."
-St. Francis of Assisi.

"Lord:
Grant your glorious gift of peace to the Colombian people."
-The Third Fransciscan Order
