What is human security?

Unlike traditional security policy that emphasizes military means for reducing the risks of war and prevailing if deterrence fails, human security focuses on addressing chronic threats to security such as hunger, disease, natural disasters and repression.

This is a people-centered, interconnected, and
multi-dimensional approach that strives to understand and address the root causes of conflict. Human security integrates economics, politics, law, and development to promote freedom from fear and freedom from want.
