Last Friday afternoon I visited El Museo del Oro (The Gold Museum). This museum is located in a large and modern building in the lively and historic downtown neighborhood known as La Candelaria. The impressive exhibit displays more than 34,000 gold pieces from the primary pre-Hispanic cultures of Colombia. Artifacts in the Museo del Oro include thousands of exquisite objects in stone, bone, clay, gold, emerald, and textiles from numerous advanced civilizations that had thrived in the region before the arrival of Columbus.
